Italic vases

Mastering Nature

On the occasion of the Nuit Blanche Kyoto 2024, we are pleased to present the project Italic Vases design by Flavien Delbergue and made entirely by Japanese craftsman Shuji Nakagawa.
The particularity of this project lies in the motif of the wood and its inclined veins. Usually, the wood grain is vertical or horizontal, using the Sashimono technique that is unique to the artisan. Here, his skills and mastery of the material are revealed from a different angle in his vases. The shape of these vases, inspired by traditional Japanese Oke buckets, is also different, allowing for a dialogue on the technical mastery of wood in craft and industry.

The exhibition took place In Karimoku Commons Kyoto, a new space created by Karimoku Furniture Inc., Japan’s leading manufacturer of wooden furniture.
